Every Zelda has it's own unique feel and visual style, and I think it'd be cool if this game was to follow in that tradition. I know that we want a pixelated Zelda, but that doesn't mean we have to use existing sprite sets! In fact, I feel that incorporating our own visual style and theme would make the game more intriguing and more approachable. I did a little in experimenting, and so far, the image below is what I've come up with. Its a minimalistic style, and while it appears "8-bit" the color range would not function on an NES, leaving a similar impression to Fez's visual style. A sort of faux retro. While this style is a bit less intricate than LttP, with the color range there is a ton of room for cool environments and characters. I also animated just some basic walking and slash animations for the little guy, ideally the frames per second would be faster for the slash, but I wanted to combine both animations. I also realize that this game is top-down, and that, if it were accurate, you wouldn't see so much of Link's body, but I was basing this sprite off of the very first, and personally I enjoy the unrealistic kind of top down view. Please let me know what you think, and feel free to adjust the sprite to whatever preferences you may have!

I really like the idea of an 8-bit-ish look with a better color palette.

I also love the brown hair. I had missed a brunette Link. Small thing, I know, but good nonetheless.

Thanks for your support guys! To give you all a good idea of what the style would look like more applied, I built a tiny little isolated environment. What do you think? Would you play a Zelda game that looked like this? This is just something I whipped up real quick, so if its not detailed enough for your taste thats understandable, just tell me. I have some ideas for enemies, I'll try to have something to show soon. So overall, are you guys satisfied with this style? What about this Link sprite? Let me know if you like it, and what you'd prefer if you don't!

Man, this looks really good to me. I'd play the game just for its art style.

I think Link needs to be a tad smaller. Otherwise, this looks awesome.

I think Link needs to be a tad smaller. Otherwise, this looks awesome. What makes you say that if you don't mind me asking? If its his relation to the screensize, I think the screensize would actually be 1 and 1/3 the size of that image, bringing him to the proportionate size of Link in the original Zelda when all is said and done. Or does he just seem too large pixel-wise?
